Nagai laboratory is a member of the Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo and International Center for Urban Safety Engineering (ICUS), Social Infrastructure Management division.
We believe, the aim of the contineous expansion and development process of sustainable regeneration of society can be achieved by the knowledge and vision of social infrastructures to support the human lives.
More specifically, in-depth research on performance of concrete material and structures; which is regarded as the backbone of the social infrastructure, and its application in the field of geotechnical engineering is the key.
In addition, we are also working to address the maintenance method of social infrastructure facilities in the regions where, reducing population and aging is a major social problem.
Japan is facing similar difficulties as population and infrastructures are aging rapidly in parallel.
Nagai laboratory will continue to contribute to solve social issues with technical baseline considering social science aspects.
Nagai lab has experimental and testing laboratory inside the institute.
Laboratory and student room is shared with Kishi Laboratory
(Professor Kishi Toshiharu/Institute of Industrial Science, Human and social science division), and work is done together including regular seminars and events.
We accept students from the School of Engineering, Department of social infrastructure for Nagai laboratory.

長井研究室は，東京大学生産技術研究所・都市基盤安全工学国際研究センター・成熟社会基盤適応学部門に所属しています。
日本は今，これまでに整備してきた社会基盤構造物（インフラ）が老朽化し，その維持管理が社会的な問題となっています。同時に，世界でも類を見ない速度で
急速な少子化・高齢化，更には人口減少が進んでおり，インフラの老朽化と人口の高齢化が同時に生じ，特に地方の自治体では様々な困難に直面しています。成
熟期を迎える日本を支えるインフラを，都市部と地方，それぞれに適した技術と制度で維持管理し，更には新たな整備することが必要になっています。
一方，海外に目を向けると，アジアやアフリカでは経済発展，人口増，インフラ整備が盛んに行われています。そこには，これまでに日本が培ってきた技術，制
度，経験が有用で，先端の新設技術のみならず，特に維持管理については日本がアジア域を先導できる立場にあります。
長井研究室では「成熟社会インフラ学」を掲げ，上記の問題に，技術と制度の両面から取り組んでいます。社会基盤の骨格を成すコンクリート材料・構造物の性
能に関する研究を軸に，インフラ構造物全般の維持管理について，社会科学的な視点も含め，多角的に分析しています。その研究をもとに，社会実装にも積極的
に取り組み，研究成果を社会貢献へ繋げることを試みています。海外プロジェクトへの参画も多くしており，日本の知識を海外へ展開すること，具体的に実装す
ることも行っています。
長井研究室は生産技術研究所内に研究室を置いています。 学生部屋と実験室は岸
研究室（岸利治教授），酒井研究室（酒井雄也講師）（いずれも人間・社会系部門）と共有し，定例のゼミやイベントなども共同で行っています。
